Beatle Bits #607 A FAB-U-(way)LESS DISGRACE and MILLSTONE SUCKS UP!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p8uYtm4r3Tc
In other news... Heathen Millstone has had second, or maybe even thirdly thoughts, and wants to kiss (ass) and make up with Dirk.
http://www.newsoftheworld.co.uk/story_pages/showbiz/showbiz2.shtml
Christ, and you know it ain't ezy and you thought I was kidding about the end of days?
Finally, it appears that a special edition of Lennon Legend will be released-in Kanuckistan anyway-on June 12, which will feature 24 songs in 5.1, on a companion DVD.
From a release sheet, there are the standard Lennon gems, PLUS, Everybody Had a Hard Year, Hair Peace, and a song identified as Night, on the DVD.
I guess these may be "rarities," or whatever.
Should be groovy, baby.
But 5.1 is the big newz.

Beatle Bits #606 McQUICKLY PINOHOCIOS UNCUT
Dirk Sez: Bip Bop!
--------------------------------------------------
I direct your attention to the June ish of the UK music mag, UNCUT.
Within the pages, you will find an interview with Paul McCartney, discussing-and fantasizing-about his career within Wings, and strange things.
Please take the time to seek the story out, because there are a few howlers from our boy, but I have a personal fave.
According to Dirk, whilst Mullet of Kyntired was charting #1 for 9 (!) weeks in the UK in 1977, the great man happened to be riding in his limo in London, and was accosted by some Sex Pistolish punks, who, according to Dirk, complimented Him on MOK!!!
Now-and even the mag writer asks if the above is true-one has to ask one's self just exactly how much tea Dirk has had, to come up with something like the nose-stretcher of anarchists praising a bourgeoisie Beatle on his silly love song musak.
The relatively short piece on Wings is half decent-if not a bit truncated-and points out that Dirk is "a pan-global superstar and billionaire who doesn't strictly enjoy having his judgement questioned." Ya think?!!!!
Dirk, soon to be 1 over when he's 64, needs to pull a Bob Dylan and get onto the road and play some rock and roll, and give up the shlock, forever, before he becomes just a 60s curio.
I repeat, sad, really.
Dirk Collared in Japan for 12 bags of tea.
UNCUT has a nice time line for members of Wings, and also mentions how longest non Macca member Denny Laine and Dirk don't even talk now.
Although UNCUT gets a little carried away, calling band on the Run the "best" solo effort by an ex-Beatle, which I think is not accurate.
In my opinion, All Things Must Pass nudges BOTR by a nose.
But yes, Band on the Run was/is a fine album, but that was close to 35 years ago, and Dirk has not made anything really worth listening to since perhaps the Russian Album released in 1988.

Beatle Bits #604 McQUICKLY: CRAP TONITE!!!
All the Macca Madhatters are besides themselves for upon this day their boy Dirk hath released his first vid from the media millstone that is Career Almost Over.
And in a word, this new one, er, sucks: http://www.youtube.com/PAULMCCARTNEY but see-and hear, if you dare-for yerself.
I mean if the nutters out here want to puff up their poor pup, of course that is their nutty business.
But good God lasses and lads; this thing is a tedious turkey!
Gobble, fookin' gobble!
Are yea deaf as well as daft?
In fact, come November, if you have a copy of this tuckeeno, hide it, in case someone trys to dress and cook it.
A sucky, shitty, sweetie slop of saccharine that will surely last not even a laconic lunchtime.
Yech.
And in other McQuickly newz, Hawaii Ann sends a long a link, commenting at how "old" that olde Dirk is looking, and frankly, I agree: he looks a knackered numb skull.
http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2007-05-20-mccartney-interview_N.htm
Narly!
Shit, even Ozzy-who's totally fried-can come up with a better effort, AND a much better title, Black Rain. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBd8judOHoo

Beatle Bits #603 SWEET, HOT ATLANTA, '65
Your Correspondent Sez: This rocks!
Not sure why, but suddenly we are seeing high quality recordings of the US touring years, with '65 being particularly fine.
The Atlanta show, performed in a just opened multi-purpose football/baseball stadia is a great case in point.
The gig, just days AFTER the famous Shea show is actually better than Shea performance-wise, as well as sound, which for a 1965 show, is near outstanding.
Of note is George Harrison's lead guitar playing which is pretty damn good, for no fold-backs and all the screaming. (Ron from Boston sez there WERE fold-backs for this show.)
Here's some track info and times and such:
http://www.bootlegzone.com/album.php?name=mdcd006§ion=1
And again, are these things-most from Japan-making it out now because some "official" project is being worked on?
It was generally thought that few-if any-non-Hollywood Bowl shows were recorded with anything better than a reel-to-reel stuck under the stage, but this Atlanta gig-and a few others-show that there ARE some real line-recordings out there, and, worth hearing.
But for me, the highlight of this CD is the totally kick-ass I'm Down which closes the show, with Paul McCartney shredding his pipes, and John Lennon going wild on electric keyboard.
You can even hear Ringo Starr's amazing back-beat, and if you get lucky enough to hear this show, you won't allow anyone to tell you that the boys could not play live.
This show, shows they could.
Coincedently, these great era pix turned up today

Beatle Bits #601 SHOCKER: DIRK DA DA? & MILLSTONE MAKE-UP?!!!!
The 4th Best Beatle Blogger Sez: How crooked, McQuickly!
Well, well, well, oh well!
Hath upon this day-and another- Dirk McQuickly fibbed to a Fatherland court over a long ago luv child ?Be switched if know, yet your deer correspondent finds the latest cock-up to be slightly bollocks.
Hard to see how Dirk would have kept steady with a Master Race ho for two years, but hey; that could be showbiz!
But here's even bigger news: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/femail/article.html?in_article_id=456517&in_page_id=1879
Dirk, above, with the boys circa 1962, Hamburg, or maybe Liverpool .http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqPY9juPZHE
As you may recall, your correspondent hath been imploring Dirk to make nice with Millstone and end his personal bloody nightmare.
We, mates, shall see.

Beatle Bits #600: NOT TOO SHABBY,HOLLYWOOD!!!
Oh yes, 600, MMs!
BB secret tracking data shows:
45% read BB for fun and amusement
35% read BB cuz they hate the 4th Best
10% have no opinion at all
5% can't read, and 5% are tea-heads.
------------------------------- THANKS TO ALL!
No, your deer correspondent is not "going Hollywood." See below, for details:
Besides varied hate mail amd protestations, of the most asked questions of the 4th Best is, "when will the Beatles Live at the Hollywood Bowl," make it to (legit) CD?
Despite Ringo Starr commenting-now some 7 years ago-that HB was imminent, it ain't been seen, yet.
However, the boy genuises at TOUP-well, actually, the olde Baby Boomers-are heretorfore considering their next DTS 5.1 project.
And near the top of that for your consideration-I'm informed-is a 5.1 of the HB record, released in 1977, and never available on (legit) CD.
Now, far be it from me to tell the TOUPsters wot to do, but heer is wot to do, fellas: since a DTS disc will hold at least 2 hours of music, let's have the 77 release AND the boots of the HB concerts (64&65) as well, and all mixed to 5.1.
And even though George martin did a pretty good job with stereo 3 track mixes 30 years ago, I'd bet the TOUP lad could actually best him today, even without the multi's.
But it is what they could do with the boots that really interests me.
These raw tapes are no where near as end polished as what Martin mixed, yet they are as nature intended at the time, or as much as Capitol wanted to intend, naturally, for a 1965-65 release.
So I'm betting that TOUP could take the whole shebang, and make their "best ever" release, and if word gets out, may even force the EMI wankers to get fookin' busy and put out their own version.
Wot, you say; TOUP two BBs in a row?
You are bloody right!
Carry on. lads.
BONUS: Julian Nasty's new one! (be patient; it takes a moment to load) http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=48906808
DOUBLE BONUS: Recall who said 200? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070520/ap_en_mu/people_mccartneyTRIPLE BONUS! During a CBS salute to 90 year olde former evening news anchor Walter Cronkite, it was revealed by Uncle Walt that a piece on the Fabs had been prepared to run the evening of Nov. 22, 1963.
Obviously, shocking events pre-empted that Beatles report, but it did run later in December, and Cronkite reports that Ed Sullivan was on the phone to him "minutes" after the news broadcast to get a line on the group. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/05/15/entertainment/main2804452.shtml
The rest, you know.

Beatle Bits #599 NASTY BIZNESS!
Nasty Sez: Listen to this BB!
Aw roight, mates, I'm gonna learn ya some good shit today.
Thanks to one of me good mates in NYC, I hath received the audio for the new John Lennon boot, entitled, JL POB It's Gonna Be Alright (pictured below).
This 57 track 2 disc set is a sort of fly-on-the-wall tracking session recording of Lennon's first (real) solo record, recorded in 1970, and hailed by critics as akin to a masterpiece.
Well, you all can make your minds up about that one, but it sure is fun-and fascinating to listen to the album as a work in progress, multi warts and all.
Hear the seminal, "God," before John tags the "Yoko and me," on to the bit about "reality," in the released version of the tracks.
These stripped down recordings feature John on piano, Ringo Starr on skins, and trusty Klaus Voorman on bass.
The 4th Best Beatle Blogger Sez: get this, if you can!
And if you can find an original copy of this Japanese release, you will find an informative 20 page booklet as well.
Now, the question to me is why this, and more specifically, why now?
Doubt that this thing has been sitting around gathering dust for 10 years or so, so this is what may be happening:
1/ a new (legit) Lennon Anthology is being prepared, and a DAT or burn got schlepped out the studio door whilst songs were being compiled.
2/ a Phil Spector tape collection artifact got out?
3/ just about anything else is also possible.
My guess will go with Number 1, above.
In any event, let's not look a gift-boot in the mouth, or anywhere else for that matter.
I don't know what it is, but for me at least, it is a warm and fuzzy experience taking the time and really kicking back and taking this recording all in, even if 17 takes a piece of Love and Hold On ain't exactly your idea of a party.
And another guess: there will be more-probably much more-of this material to follow in the coming months, or years, depending on what comes out from Ms. Ono, say by X-Mas.
Have the booters also got a hold of the superior evening show at the One to One Benefit at MSG in August 1972?
If so, good; that will most likely require a full CD and DVD release of both shows, with the vid in 5.1, I pray.
So, like, Hold On, OK?
Or, more context:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZh_BqJqKns

Beatle Bits #597 DIRK NIKS DIRK!!!
Dirk Sez: Look at me banana!
-------------------------------
Well, well, well, and an orgy of tea, well.
I know that some of you think I'm daft, wot with my regular references to Paul McCartney's alter-ego, Dirk McQuickly, from the Pre-Fab Four AKA The (fabulous) Rutles.
Yet then I ask you'se to please explain the following, to wit, is life not imitating art imitating even worse art?
In Dirk's new one, Career Almost Over, out June 5, there contains a song entitled "Only Mama Knows."
The lyric to that rather wanking tune contains the following lament to a "God forsaken town."
Well, as loyal BB reader Ian points out, the above is lifted verbatim from Barrington Wom's seminal "Living In Hope" from All You Need Is Cash, now some 30 years ago, almost, today.
If you doubt the 4th Best Beatle Blogger in the Entire WWW, well then, here:http://www.neilinnes.org/L.htm#livininhope
You see, I don't have to make this stuff up, nor even try very hard to make fun of Dirk, because he does a good job Himself, and that's not even counting the Heathen Millstone Affair.
No, this is clearly a case of eine kleine middle klas musik when you're 65 and nicking lines from three decade olde parody records, well, er, wot would you say then, mate?
I'd say He's bloody daft.
Yet, friends, we'll always have this, and tea:

NB: On a serious, bummer note, my former broadcast partner on the 2004-06 Pop Culture Connection radio show, Bob Sherwin, has passed at the age of 52 from a heart attack.
We interviewed many Beatle "people" on the show, including Cyn Lennon, Tony Bramwell, and Pete Best.

Beatle Bits #594 FORMER DIRK PR WEASEL SPILLS THE TEA!!!
The 4th Best Beatle Blogger Sez: WATCH OUT! This is strong suff, and has led many astray.
The former , second, Mrs. McQuickly reappears courtesy of the Daily Mail, in which a former Macca pr monkey is on about his 15 years of toil for the man who was better known and appreciated, Yesterday.
Sorry.
Of course the tea snortin' media man has method to his madness-he is hawking a new band that just happens to have a new recording out on the same day as Career Almost Over oozes out.
Yet skimming the article, it is hard not to feel for Dirk, such is the smarm-charm the BSing lad exhibits with his various tales of woe and wile and weep.
Read all about it:

Well, at least he was right about Heathen-hell, she wanted to ban tea!!!- but where in the world IS our Mz. Millstone?

Beatle Bits #593 CAREER ALMOST OVER, FER FOOKIN' SURE!
-A young Dirk, in a scrap yard, Brighton, 1961
Listen, I know I have upset, terribly, the looney legion of Macca Madhatters lately, wot with makin' sport of Dirk's new one, on Java Jive Buck Records.
However, if even the most SSRI'd and zombified fan can listen to this:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fPk5rfpFFU and then feel good about where Dirk is goin' then I say to you sir or madam, you are on way more tea than I-or Dirk- ever could be.
Whistling in, on, or around the middle 8 of the first single?
Are you fookin' kiddin' moi?
Sad my son, sad.
Here's the best way to hear the new one: http://maccablog.com/dancetonight.html
Get it?
And here's the 4th Best Beatle Blogger in the whole wide WWW with his version of the unhit single, Wank Tonight from Career Almost Over:
Everybody gonna wank tonight
Everybody have their bird spank 'em tonight
Everybody gonna puke all right
Everybody gonna wank tonight, fer sure
You can spank the money all night
If ya wanna
You can make a dope of yerself, allright.
(Whistle while you work, as if you are a jerk)
Everybody gonna wank tonight
Everybody ain't gonna by this CD, it ain't quite right
Everybody gonna chuck it out, allright!
Yet even though Dirk IS at present a world-class wanker, he has just done a non-wankerish thing: http://www.express.co.uk/features/view/6748
Who's better, who's Best? Who's better (way) late than never?!!!!!
And even this, this, is encouraging (TOLD YA!): http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003583922
Finally, here's also one of Dirk's finer movements, now some 39 years ago...sigh.

Broken Record: BY THE WAY, JUST WHAT WAS/IS HE THINKING?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amnesty International is getting the whole thing together, and among the tracks, how about U2 doin' IK, Aerosmith with Give peace A Chance, Jakob Dylan and Dhani Harrison trying Gimme Some Truth and the Flaming Lips with Starting Over.
Out June 12, from Warners.
INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN
TO SAVE DARFUR, TO BE RELEASED BY WARNER BROS. RECORDS JUNE 12
HISTORIC DOUBLE CD FEATURES MORE THAN 20 JOHN LENNON SONGS RECORDED BY U2, GREEN DAY, R.E.M., AVRIL LAVIGNE, CHRISTINA AGUILERA, SNOW PATROL, MORE
TRACKS BY ADDITIONAL ARTISTS INCLUDING CANADIANS FINGER ELEVEN, THE WAKING EYES, DAVID USHER, BARENAKED LADIES AND K-OS JOIN THE LIKES OF DURAN DURAN, DEFTONES,
OZZY OSBOURNE AND WILLIE NELSON—MORE THAN 50 IN ALL— AVAILABLE FOR DIGITAL DOWNLOAD
In an historic effort to mobilize activism around the human rights atrocities occurring in Darfur , Sudan , more than 50 international recording artists and over 30 record labels have united behind Instant Karma: The Amnesty International Campaign to Save Darfur . The collection features iconic songs by legendary musician and peace activist John Lennon recorded by an array of best-selling artists and will be available for purchase both on CD and as digital downloads via online retailers.
In keeping with its long tradition of activism powered by music, Amnesty International, the world’s largest grassroots human rights organization, will use Yoko Ono’s generous gift of Lennon’s solo catalogue as the centerpiece of its campaign to rally activists toward human rights activism for the people of Darfur . The Instant Karma mobilization centers on saving the lives of innocent women, children and men who are dying by the thousands and restoring peace in the region.
The two-CD set of Instant Karma, which will be released by Warner Bros. Records / Warner Music Canada on June 12, boasts a stellar line-up of 23 world-class artists from a variety of genres putting their own unique spin on classic songs from Lennon’s solo songbook. The artists—who come from the worlds of rock, pop, hip-hop and country—include longtime activists U2 (“Instant Karma”), Green Day (“Working Class Hero”), R.E.M., (“#9 Dream”) and Jackson Browne (“Oh, My Love”); female pop powerhouses Christina Aguilera (“Mother”), Avril Lavigne (“Imagine”), and Corinne Bailey Rae (“I’m Losing You”); country stars Big & Rich (“Nobody Told Me”); alternative favorites Snow Patrol (“Isolation”), The Flaming Lips (“(Just Like) Starting Over”), Postal Service (“Grow Old With Me”) and Regina Spektor (“Real Love”); best-selling rockers Aerosmith (“Give Peace a Chance”), Lenny Kravitz (“Cold Turkey”) and Los Lonely Boys (“Whatever Gets You Thru The Night”); and pensive singer-songwriters Jakob Dylan with Dhani Harrison (“Gimme Some Truth”) and Ben Harper (“Beautiful Boy”).
The rights to Lennon’s songs were generously donated by Yoko Ono, who has donated all music publishing royalties. Amnesty International chose to harness the power of Lennon’s music to inspire a new generation of activists to stand up for human rights. Proceeds from CD and digital sales will support Amnesty International and its campaign to focus attention and mobilize activism around the urgent catastrophe in Darfur , and other human rights crises.
“It’s wonderful that, through this campaign, music that is so familiar to many people of my era will now be embraced by a whole new generation,” Ono says. “John’s music set out to inspire change, and in standing up for human rights, we really can make the world a better place.”
Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International U.S.A., adds, “We know music’s power to unite and inspire people. With hundreds of thousands dead, millions driven from their burned out villages and rape being used as a tactic in the Darfur conflict, the world needs a mass
mobilization demanding action and justice. The Instant Karma campaign combines John Lennon’s passionate desire for us to imagine a more peaceful world with Amnesty International’s expertise in achieving justice. Instant Karma allows ordinary people to lend their hand in saving lives—a notion we think would make John proud.”
“John Lennon was not just a famous Beatle, he was the social conscience of his generation,” says Jeff Ayeroff, one of the album’s executive producers. “By reinterpreting his music and reintroducing it to a new generation, we shine a light on the darkness that is Darfur . Yoko Ono’s gift of John’s music to Amnesty International, whose work points out the pain and injustice in the world, is a true beacon of light. Give peace a chance is all we are saying.”
Winner of the 1977 Nobel Peace Prize, Amnesty International includes people from all walks of life taking action and is composed of more than 2.2 million human rights activists worldwide. Its members protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. Amnesty International investigates and exposes abuses, educates and mobilizes the public and helps transform societies to create a safer, more just world.
Amnesty International has a long history of activism involving musicians including 1988’s worldwide Human Rights Now! Tour and 1998’s Paris concert, which honored the 40th and 50th anniversaries of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, respectively. Collectively, the concerts featured performances by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman, Youssou N’Dour, Alanis Morissette, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and Radiohead.

Beatle Bits #591 IT WAS (Almost) 40 YEARS AGO, NEXT MONTH!!
Make any sense to you? Me neither.
But me spy did point out that Dirk got the June release, and as is custom, NO Beatles release will occur at the same time to compete.
(Although comparing late-model Dirk rubbish to Fabs' stuff is like comparing sour sheit to brown sugar.)
And I know we should cut the new head of Apple/Rutle C some slack, yet if he does not work the same kind of magic he did at Sony/Legacy by the end of 2007 with Beatles material, well, then, sod him.
In the meantime though, the ever trusty Gotham Johnny made me hip to a very interesting piece of Sgt. P audio.
It appears to be a rough rehearsal monitor mix of the title track, sans overdubs, and it is a version I had not heard before.
Enjoy! http://youtube.com/watch?v=LT_xW93m54Y
And if you know the origin, please advise.
LAST MINUTE ADD: Cleveland Matt sez, this verison is from an original Yellow Dog boot circa 2003, entitled Acetates. Hello Cleveland!

Beansprout Double Mocha Latte Records
Recorded 4 years ago at Shabby Road in 20 minutes, here is your singer's run-down:
Track 1: Keep it in Me Trousers
This meaty, beaty, big and bouncy tune really bites.
Track 2: She Promised Me Heaven, But Became Heathen
Pretty much self explanatory. Features 2 chords.
Track 3: You Always Liked John, Better
Back to the 60s with this one, although God only knows why.
Track 4: Macca's Madhatters
A simple salute to simpleton fans. 1 chord.
Track 5: See Yer Knickers;Get Yer Kit Off
A rollicking ode to Dirk's new 31 year olde bird.
Track 6: Fook You, Wench
Another lament about past romance.
Track 7: Mr. Wankerly
Dirk's nod to a former headmaster, who taught the flute toot, scoot.
Track 8: Soft In Me Head
Possibly the most honest track on the platter, featuring The Maccaman Tabernac Choir.
Track 9: The Beginning Of The End
Story in song of Dirk's visit to a soothsayer in Brighton on bank holiday.
Track 10: The Singer Has No Clothes
Confessional by Dirk; borrows and samples Cook of the House melody.
Track 11: You Tell Me Why I'm Daft
Oddly, an instrumental
Track 12: House of Ear Wax
Dirk's recounting of his visit to audiologist and subsequent canal flushing.
Track 13: Wot the Fook?
Dirk rocks out on album's final tune, with 12 string fuzz-box mandolin.
BONUS TRACKS 14, 15, 16,&17: not worth mentioning.
An x-tra special bonus includes an early McQuickly composition left off-for some strange reason-of any previous recording:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqPY9juPZHE
-----------------------------------------------
This, is surely a release that will last a lunch, and tea time.
RATING: 3/4 of a star, for a fine artiste.

Beatle Bits #589 MACCA MADHATTER MAY!
Recently, a few MMs have taken offense to your dear correspondent-the acknowledged 4th best Beatle Blogger in the WWW-and have begun a campaign to have me Don Imused.
Got news for you freaks; it ain't gonna work.
I shan't say "nappy headed ho's," and I don't plan to, unless Heathen covers up.
So, do me and Coach a fave you twits, and just fook off, or at least get better and wittier insults that I can use.
(Oh, alright, "rat's anus," was not bad.)
Anyways, in other news-like Dirk McQuickly happenings, here's something that is certainly close to interesting:http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/tm_method=full%26objectid=18979205%26siteid=89520-name_page.html
And, just for olde times sake, here's a pix of our Millstone girl after she returned 'ome after flaming pie'd out in the US:http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstories/tm_method=full%26objectid=18972142%26siteid=89520-name_page.html
Apparently, this shot was taken just after she heard an advance copy of Career Almost Over, and had almost stopped larfing.
Finally, for those who just can't get enough of Macca, here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyyEc-GNDfQ

Beatle Bits #588 DIRK: DOWN&DURTY (Weekend)!
Dirk is up to his olde tricks again.
But before we go any further, take a gander below at a recent pix of our boy, and tell me-honestly, now-if he does not look nearly 'round the olde bend:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=452580&in_page_id=1773
If you ask your dear correspondent, he looks to me like either he just got arse schtuped, or was fending off the effects of some bangers and mash and bubble and squeak. (Look it up, non-Limeys).
Then, to make matters even more wank, news comes today-courtesy of NY Barb amd me Mum, that Dirk may have gone totally mad as a May hair(dresser) Two hair(dressers).
See below, if you dare:
http://www.mirror.co.uk/showbiz/3am/tm_headline=macca-mine-a-double--%26method=full%26objectid=19048552%26siteid=89520-name_page.html
Here, is the lass in question, with her sexpot website :http://www.natashamarsh.com/ and all I can say is if this is your new squeeze, Dirk, then YOU DIRTY OLD MAN!!!!
Amour, indeed.
Yet if the new bird(s) don't work out, will the new platter-Career Almost Over- pull McQuickly out of his daft funk?
Will EMI get back their mind(s)?
Will Starbucks?
Will the Madhatters fook off?
Good God, Mum. Who knows.
Yet...what was/is he thinking?
Perhaps a dose of salt-peter in his good morning, good morning-AH!-cornflakes might work, wonders.

Beatle Bits #587 A REALLY (REALLY) BEEG SHEW!!!
(If one is lucky and flush enuff to get an original, one also gets a 20 page book-see below.)
So, this, THIS, is the real deal, mates.http://www.fareast-records.jp/main-1.html
And this, THIS, is the first time that the entire August '65 extravaganza has made it out in its entirety, in at least acceptable sound quality-albeit in mono-as well as what sounds like the plug being pulled a few times, Stig lead guitar buried occasionally, and too hot, shrieked vocals.
You get the full 12 song gig by the Beatles, the edited 10 song concert as broadcast by the BBC in 1966, and King Curtis, Brenda Holloway, Cannibal and the Headhunters, Sounds Incorporated, and of course, the Disco Tech Dancers!
Groovy, baby.
Hey even "Wanker The K," is on here, along with countless other Gotham DJs getting their shortened 15 minutes of major fame, as they whip and alternately coddle the crowd prior to the headlining Fabs.
But what makes this set so essential, is the inclusion of the back-up bands-especially Brenda Holloway and King Curtis-which really informs as to how good a fest that Sid Bernstein put on that amazing night, now some 42(!) years ago.
CD packaging calls this a "line recording" from the PA, but somehow it seems to be too good for something snatched from the usually crappy period PA systems.
Could it be a dub-down to mono from the Capitol 4 track stereo recording of the concert, of which only one track has made its (legit) appearance on Anthology 2?
In any event, the concert is a gas to listen to, and John Lennon with his mad, faux Oriental rantings between songs are something to behold. I wonder wot he was on, that night.
No matter, this is a gen-u-ine piece of his-tor-y.
And, for another perspective, heer's Beatle Bob's take:
http://disc.server.com/discussion.cgi?disc=161261;article=943;title=Beatles%20Bootlegs
Get it, if you can.
NB: A very special Macca "thumbs up," to "occasional" reader Tony, who just graduated, honours, from Remedial Pissy Letter Writing 101, at the University of Please Yourself, California.
A sample from his nearly literate tome to Coach M;reading BB "is like running your tongue over a sore in your mouth."
Wow!
Tony is very excited about Mac's new one, Career Almost Over, as are apparently also a number of other musically, life-challenged wankers.
Lucky, really.
Beatle Bits #586 MILLSTONE/MACCA REUNITE!!!!
Admit it: deep in your slimy little hearts you all wanted the ghastly duo to get back together, and now, through the magic of the www., they have.
So, without further a poo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMxthbkC_Nc

Beatle Bits #585 COOL STIG CHAT & UNCUT CRAP!
http://www.geocities.com/~beatleboy1/dbgh470.int.html
This thing dates to 1970, and is a gem in its own time.
Not so great is the following: I really like UNCUT, the UK music mag, but-at least in my opinion-some of the writers try to hard to do the old, "look at me I'm a rock writer," crapola.
Case in point is the May 2007 issue-Pink Floyd cover-which has a feature on rock reunions by John Lewis.
The Threatles place 4th worst on the list, and here is an excerpt: "The Fab Four always refused to get back together, with John Lennon's death in 1980 as a useful full stop.
But in late 1995, for reasons best known to themselves, the surviving 'Threetles' desecrated their impeccable cultural legacy (hey if it was "impeccable, how could they hurt it?) by helping Jeff Lynne orchestrate a discarded Lennon demo.
The result was a ghastly piece of grave robbery, 'Free As A Bird.' This grisly reunion was designed to promote three volumes of the Anthology that followed over the next year, a prelude for EMI's increasingly aggressive and gimmicky marketing campaigns for subsequent Beatle repacks, from McCartney's de-Spectorized Let it Be...Naked to the utterly pointless 1 compilation and the baffling Love."
I don't know about you, but methinks Mr. Lewis mostly knows fook all of what he speaks, especially about the 1 comp, which was the first time many of the songs were remastered properly for CD, and was nearly 80 minutes of dyn-o-mite.
Yes, LIBN was a bit of a wank, yet I hardly think Love was "baffling," but rather, rather all encompassing.
Hell, it made it to Vegas, didn't it?
Perhaps UNCUT will redeem themselves with their June ish http://www.uncut.co.uk/ which, unfortunately-at least here in Kanuckstan-won't reach me until late May.
Anyways, there's always www.boomermediareview.com where new, non-wanking, non-look-at-me-I'm-a-writer material is added just about every day!
Lucky, really.

Beatle Bits #584 DIRK LOVES!!!
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=451890&in_page_id=1773
Yes, Lady Strawbina Fields Stout would seem to be the one for Macca, who appreciates birds who shat upon him with their "spirit," during his new, un-fab, Career Almost Over period.
Well, at least Strawbina most likely (kinda) knows who the Beatles were/are, even if she may have secretly poo-poo'd them as loquacious Liverpool lager louts.
And cacophony causing common commoners.
But, is this troo lurve now for Dirk and date?
Apprently, only Dirks hairdresser knows for sure, and M'lady ain't tattlin', neither.
Yet, here's another clue for you'se all:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHaq1PlfJXU
And here's (more) proof that he is soft in the 'ead. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYk6YPo-6aI
Geez, just what is he thinking?

Beatle Bits #583 MILLSTONE DRIVEN DOWN? and SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!
now it seems that all he can do is play
The songs are gone
With yesterday..
OK, so I ain't no composer, BUT, I don' think Macca has got the magic, no more,
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070430/ap_en_mu/people_paul_mccartney although yet once again, he seems to be able to "tea" the media.
And THANKS to all those (sane) e-mailers who e'd to commensurate with the 4th best blogger.
Oh drat: a Monday without Heathen!
Ever since she was sent off and home last week, I have been wearing a black band around me leg.
Ahem.
Here's more: apparently Millstone is so discouraged, she may be considering a lesser sum of allhismony:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/showbiz/showbiznews.html?in_article_id=451516&in_page_id=1773
Whatever.
AND NOW...
Although I love writing about the Beatles et al, it has always been my goal to write about MUCH MORE of what the Baby Booms are-or did-be digging and dictating.
Therefore, and forthwith, I have begun upon this day, a new website-ta-dah! at:
www.boomermediareview.com
It is still very much a work in progress, and of course I have my ideas, but I would surely seek some advice on what (else) to review, as well as your comments, of course.
And like this blog, I am going to write about a variety of issues, from a different bent than that of the usual suspects. And I'll try damn hard not to get bored, (too) easily.
Please e me at: terry@boomermediareview.com and make me hip.
You could even send some tea...
