Beatle Bits #581 TELL ME WHY: MACCA GETS ROLLING STONE(D)
Wow, Mum!
That was a pretty McQuickly 40 years, I'd say.
Of course I am referring to the 40th anniversary of Rolling Stone mag, whose first issue had a picture of John Lennon adorn the crumby, cheap newsprint cover of the time.
Now, the whole she-bang is a big, glossy, almost record album size pub, and for it's anny, it is featuring some notable rocksters with major interview.
So, Paul McCartney gets the treatment from an adoring Tony DeCurtis.
Lots of luverly revisionism here's, such as Dirk claiming that "suing the Beatles was the worst moment in my life. That was an impossible situation I had to wrestle with for months."
And this: "the Beatles reached a point where they kind of imploded...I'd led the dance with Sgt. Pepper..". and well, you get the wanking idea'r.

Well, Millstone finally took a pratfall during Duncing With The Starz this week, and ended up with a very ordinary 21 score from the goofy "judges."

Sources close to the Rutles have whispered to your dear correspondent that Heathen Millstone is in tough with the gay dancing with the so-called stars, this week.
As the "competition" heats up, will the "judges" finally have to save what's left of their "integrity" and give the olde heave-ho to it?
Of course I sincerely wish not, as this would give one less category of fodder to riff on.

My good mate Mary Rose from Rutland, Lancashire, hath provided a most interesting tidbit concerning the forthcoming-June, it is said-Dirk McQuickly nee McCartney album.
According to the link below, the Starbucks only CD will include a tasty number on Dirk's relationship-or lack thereof-with John Lennon,who during the mid-70s, could be nasty.

Beatle Bits #569 IT WAS 20 YEARS-almost-TODAY!
A colleague of mine pointed out that the departing Apple CEO had not been parodied in the Rutles.
My first thought was that the lads that produced the brilliant-take-the-piss out of Fabs were smart enough not to bite the hand that gave them access to loads of archived material, which allowed the Rutles to be almost life imitating art.
Well, now the olde soldier just fades away.

Perhaps-I said perhaps-this new guy will care more about getting product to the fans, than settling 45 year olde scores with record companies and song publishers.

Beatle Bits #566 TAKE OUT THE BEATLES AND THE TRASH!

While falling a bit short of "deposit Rutle/Beatle trash here," the recent cover cock-up with the cleaners, does remind one of the continuing ballad of Beatle litigating.
Now, who (really) knows at this point what took place with the artwork for the first EMI Fabs album going missing, but SO MANY things have gone missing from that lot over the past 37 or so years, that it just seems the same olde, same olde to this sceptic.
Important stuff has been MIA from the care and control of the Beatles-er, Past Masters, Ultra-Rare, Get Back, etc,, etc., etc,-that to believe that this latest "you wot?" is perhaps any different, is to play the foole. Perhaps.
I've read and heard many, many stories over the past 20 years or so about how the high quality bootleg material got out of Shabby Road-none of them quite all there, BTW-but I don't recall the maids(s) being blamed.
Oh well, and oy vey:

Beatle Bits #563 SIMON SUPERBLY SALUTES STIG!
Yes, a brief respite from Millstone Madness today, with a look at Simon Leng's excellent effort from late year, While My Guitar Gently Weeps: The Music of George Harrison, Hal-Leonard, 342 pages. http://www.amazon.com/While-My-Guitar-Gently-Weeps/dp/1423406095/ref=sr_1_5/002-8282522-0396801?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175737241&sr=1-5
I bought this months ago, and due to a severe tea binge, had not had time to study it.
But, after having spent hours of quality time with the book, I can report you that if you are a Stig fan, you should read it-and even if you are not.
And that's because there is some juicy Beatle history in here too, such as the time that Dirk McQuickly stormed out of the Revolver sessions, cuz the poor sod did not have enough to do, Simon sez.
The book runs through the "quiet one's" entire music career, and is especially detailed with George's solo efforts.
Although some may find Leng's text a bit too technical and analytical when it comes to describing the music, I found it a nice balance of lay and actual musician know-how.
Leng spends a lot of ink on Living in the Material World, and Dark Hoarse, which is fine by me because I learned a ton of stuff I didn't know.
For instance, Keng writes that the ill-fated 1974 North American tour WAS skedded to be released on LP before Extra Texture in 1975, but, for a variety of reasons, did not as we know, happen.
However, a lot of shows from the tour were professionally recorded-and filmed-so the report that we may see some of the audio and video later this year, when Dark Horse is expected to be remastered and reissued, could be a reality.
Leng goes so far to say that if George would have used more care in the production of DH-his throaty vocals causing much critical sniping-then the album may have been a big hit, and changed the course of Stig's solo career that soon dissolved to "I don't care anymore."
I recommend Simon's book, highly.

I suppose if I had said that You-Tube was more popular-and available-than EMI Beatles, I would have gotten away with it.
I'm sorry I opened my mouth, and keyboard.
I'm not anti -Apple, anti-EMI, anti-download, or even anti-anti.
I wasn't knockin' it or putting it down, although I still put down the buttholes at Beatles Collectors Forum.
I was just saying as a fact, and it's true more for Kanuckistan, than here.
I'm not saying that I'm better, or greater, or comparing meself with EMI/Apple as a person or God or Rod as a thing or whatever it is.

Beatle Bits #558 IS MILLSTONE (IN FACT) EVEN MADDER THAN A MARCH HARE?!!
Although the nut-bar Macca Madhatters appear to hate heathen Millstone's innards, few in the US really know much about the uni-leg "charity campaigner" unlike the UK, where Mz. Millstone's rather dubious rep proceeds 'er.
The US media seems to be giving a sucker an even break, and sort of portray Heathen as a high-energy. overachiever who just happens to be trying to score big brass in a new millennium marriage melt-down with a former Beatle.
But over there in jolly olde England, I'm afraid Millstone is considered a pathological fantasist, who is not be taken seriously, if at all.
